Every Colour Counts: Meet the Rainbow Mote for Pride Month š³ļøāš
Okay, I know weāre already halfway through June (how did that happen?!), but Pride Month is still very much alive and kicking. Better late than never, right? Iām excited to finally share something special Iāve been working on: the Rainbow Mote from the Lost Digits universe.
Why the Rainbow Mote?
If you know my work, you know the Lost Digits are all about giving a voice to those who often feel unheard or overlooked. For Pride, I wanted to create a mote that wears the colours of the rainbow flagāa symbol of unity, diversity, and pride in the LGBTQ+ community. Each Lost Digit has at least one mote thatās a colour of the rainbow because, honestly, whatās a community without every shade and story?
Inclusion Is Everything
We all come from different backgrounds, and everyoneās story matters. The LGBTQ+ community especially knows what itās like to have stories go untold or hidden away. Generational trauma, fear of not being accepted, or just feeling invisibleāthese are real struggles. The Lost Digits are a reminder that youāre definitely not alone.
A Little Bit of My Story
I grew up in a pretty religious familyāmy grandparents were deeply involved in the church, and I had both a bishop and a reverend close by while I was growing up. So, as you can imagine, figuring out who I really was as a teenager felt extra complicated. At one point, I let someone outside my family convince me that if my family found out about my sexuality, Iād be disowned and abandoned. That fear kept me in a tough, controlling situation for a few years.
Eventually, I found my way out. And when my family did find out, what I got wasnāt rejectionāit was support. Sure, there were mixed feelings and some big conversations, but at the end of the day, everyone put aside their own beliefs and chose to love and accept me for who I am. Looking back, I realise Iād lost sight of just how much love was actually there all along.
Thatās why Pride Monthāand the spirit behind The Lost Digitsāmeans so much to me. Itās about those moments when you feel invisible or afraid to show your true colours, and then the relief and joy that comes when you finally step into the light and find acceptance.
My story isnāt uniqueāso many people have felt unseen, unheard, or misunderstood. Thatās why I created the Lost Digits: to remind anyone who feels lost in the crowd that you matter, your story matters, and youāre never just a number.
Living in the Shadows
Letās be realābeing yourself isnāt always easy. Sometimes it means hiding parts of who you are just to get by. Thatās why the Lost Digits resonate with so many people: they represent living in the shadows, but also the hope of stepping into the light. Pride Month is about that journeyāfinding the courage to show up as your true self, no matter what.
Be Loud, Be Proud
Pride is about more than just celebrationāitās about saying, āIām here, and I matter.ā Whether youāre out and proud, still figuring things out, or supporting from the sidelines, youāre part of this story. The Rainbow Mote is for every walk of life, every background, and every voice that deserves to be heard.
